Final 2009 ASGA Junior Tourney at Texarkana CC

Historic Texarkana Country Club, where the legendary Byron Nelson once hung his hat as golf professional, hosts the final ASGA Junior Designated Tournament of 2009 this week. The ASGA Mountain Valley Junior Boys and Girls Stroke Play is August 4-6 and 54 holes will determine both player of the year titles. Hunter Smith and Colby Benton are neck-and-neck in the boys race and Katie Webb leads Summar Roachelle by a narrow margin in the girls race. Last year's junior girls stroke at Pine Bluff CC went 54 holes - and then 6 more in a playoff between Taylor Fisher and Roachelle. Fisher won the tournament and the ASGA Junior Girls Player of the Year. It is unknown at this point what will unfold at TCC, but one thing is clear: Superintendent Ken Sawyer has the course in great shape (he always does) even after 8 inches of rain recently. Tee times are 8:00 - 9:30 off #1 & #10 first two days. Players are repaired for Thursday's final round. I apologize for not "blogging" recently - five days at the US Junior Am in NJ and a week in Ardmore, OK for the Big I National Championship - I will catch up and hope to blog everyday from TCC this week. Stay tuned.......more excitement to follow!
